Gary F. Brownell joined the firm as a partner in 2001 after serving for six years in the Department of Justice of the Ho-Chunk Nation, first as a Tribal Attorney and then, from 1997 to 2001 as Attorney General. In that position he supervised an eight-lawyer legal department handling a wide range of tribal legal issues, and focused his personal practice in the areas of gaming, economic development, financing, taxation, housing, personnel relations, employee benefits and code development. Prior to joining the Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Justice, Mr. Brownell was a partner in the Buffalo, New York firm of Cohen Swados Wright Hanifin Bradford & Brett where he concentrated in corporate finance, business combinations and divestitures, and tax planning.

Mr. Brownell received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1977 and graduated from the Cornell University School of Law in 1980.
