Matthew S. Jaffe joined the firm as counsel in 1999 following more than eleven years practicing Indian law in Washington , D.C. He was formerly a partner of Hobbs , Straus, Dean & Walker , LLP, and has developed considerable experience assisting tribal clients in such practice areas as the Indian Self-Determination Act, the Federal Tort Claims Act, gaming, the Indian Reservation Roads (IRR) Program, and the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA). He has written several articles on NAHASDA, including, Due Process Requirements Under NAHASDA Regulations: Lessons Learned from Kansas City, published in the Indian Housing Law Quarterly, Vol. 2, Issue 3, 1999. Mr. Jaffe has represented a consortia of tribal clients on negotiated rulemaking committees involving federal agencies such as the Department of the Interior, Department of Transportation, and Department of Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Jaffe obtained his B.A., with honors, from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1983 and received his law degree from the George Washington University National Law Center in 1986.
