Colin Cloud Hampson (Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and the White Earth Band of Chippewa) joined the firm in 1994 and opened the firm's office in San Diego in 1999. Mr. Hampson is engaged in all areas of the firm's Indian law practice, including Indian gaming, environmental, water, tax and general counsel matters.
Mr. Hampson has represented tribes in litigation in federal, tribal and state court as well as before federal agencies involving a broad range of issues. For example, he represented a California tribe in a successful lawsuit in federal court to speed up the Department of Interior's processing of a petition for recognition as an Indian tribe. Mr. Hampson also represents tribes in water adjudications.
Mr. Hampson advises and represents tribes on a wide range of matters including federal Indian law, gaming and other contracts, Indian Self-Determination Act contracts, jurisdiction, recognition, environmental law, employment matters, leasing and national resource development, tax, health and cultural resources. For a number of years he has advised tribes and tribal gaming commissions regarding Indian gaming regulation.
Mr. Hampson graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School in 1994. Mr. Hampson also received a Master of Arts degree in International Policy Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History from Stanford University in 1991.
